Artist Info: "I create paintings inspired by the feelings and memories of places I've been - from my native Scotland to Cornwall, Ireland, Wales, The Lake District, Italy and Yorkshire where I currently live. I'm aiming to convey my feelings about a place rather than a literal representation. I have an affinity with shorelines and skies, but I'm also moved by the mysterious atmosphere of a forest. The work changes according to the sense of place - from the blasting ocean roar on Islay to the quiet greens of a Yorkshire fell. Sketchbooks are integral to my practice. I immerse myself in the moment - the air, earth, patterns, light and sounds. I note lines and spaces. These studies I take to the studio and they form a 'practice move' for the painting. In the studio, intuition takes over."
Lesley has exhibited widely including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2013 and shortlisted in 2014, the ING Discerning Eye in 2016 and 2017 at The Mall Galleries and in 2016 she was a winner of the UK Artist Magazine Award. Lesley's first solo show "Atmosphere & Emotion" was inspired by her 2015 Ireland experience and in 2017 she was a contributor to the first-ever book about cold wax painting by Rebecca Crowell and Jerry McLaughlin. Lesley's most recent paintings have been inspired by Winter trips to Scotland. She has been granted residencies in Wales and Cornwall and returns to Ireland to Ballinglen Foundation in October 2018. Lesley is a member of Leeds Fine Artists and York Artworkers and is one third of The Cambridge 3
